Propriety demands that Rajendra Arlekar should have immediately resigned as Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly till the current probe against him is over to enable the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and the Income Tax officials to conduct a fair, impartial and uninfluenced investigation into the source of those entire 72 lakhs he paid last year for that 500 sq mt plot at Porvorim and the further Rs 4, 8,280 he paid towards stamp duty and registration charges.
ACB officials are desperately trying to shield Rajendra Arlekar. There needs to be a scrutiny of the call details of telephonic conversations between some senior BJP politicians and the ACB officials on 29th January after the complaint against Rajendra Arlekar was filed. ACB officials in contravention of the law are acting as caged parrots. ACB officers instead of summoning Rajendra Arlekar have instead in an unprecedented move gone to his door step to investigate the case. As part of the investigation to ascertain the source of Rajendra Arlekar's sudden increase in wealth the ACB should scrutinize and probe all the tenders and contracts floated by the Goa Legislative Assembly Secretariat during Rajendra Arlekar's tenure as Speaker. Rajendra Arlekar claims that the Rs 72 lakh plot was purchased on a part bank loan. ACB needs to probe whether there was undue favour shown to Rajendra Arlekar in the granting of that 57 lakhs loan he claims he obtained. Any sale deed with a bank loan would have the date and number of the cheque or draft incorporated in the sale deed. Rajendra Arlekar's sale deed surprisingly is silent on whether the 72 lakhs claimed to have been paid was paid by cheque, draft or cash. Rajendra Arlekar has to also account for the balance 15 lakhs and the further Rs 4, 8,280 he paid towards stamp duty and registration charges. We also need to know as to why on that sale deed the address of the Vendor Dharmanand Kamat was shown as Merces Goa, when Rajendra Arlekar was fully aware that he was a permanent resident of Delhi. Mr. Speaker could you further please enlighten us as to how you managed to get that 500 sq mt plot at the rate of a mere Rs 14, 400 a sq mt when the rate there is over Rs 20,000. Was the balance paid by you under the table? Aires Rodrigues T1 - B30, Ribandar Retreat Ribandar - Goa - 403006 Mobile: 9822684372
