REMEMBERING REV.CANON ANTIMO GOMES Rev. Canon Antimo Gomes was born on 5/3/1940, at Panzorcone, Cuncolim to late Minguel Santana Gomes and Mrs Maria Crizolinda Gomes. He was ordained priest on 10/5/1964.He graduated from Lingaraj College, Belgaum,did his B.Ed.at <http://b.ed.at/> Nirmala Institute, Panjim and M.A. at Goa University. He breathed his last on 12 February 2013 and was interred on 14/2/2013
Goa Legislative Assembly passed a condolatory motion, recalling his valuable services.Rev.Dr Filipe Neri Ferrao Archbishop, and Secretary of DSE recalled his invaluable contributions to the building of the edifice, the DSE. DKA too held a condolence meeting for its past President and Treasurer. Rev. Canon Antimo was an Educationist, administrator, thinker, writer and organiser .,As the founder member of DSE for 13 years and later its President for 6 years, his contribution to DSE is outstanding, as he left his indelible mark on this unique educational set for all times to come. He also served with distinction, as the Principal of St. Xavier's College, Mapusa for 18 years. He raised the standards of the College in academic, sports and co-curricular activities to a new high. Rev.Canon Antimo had realistic dreams, as the Canon of Goa Cathedral-Chapter and a burning desire for a pilgrim centre at Old Ga. He left his mark of distinction as the Director of Lar De Estudantes, He was a truly a devout, spiritually oriented priest, served, guided and organised religious activities for the faithful around the BishopPalace,and also adopted a chapel at Mapusa during his tenure as the Principal. He catered to the spiritual and religious needs of the catholics, as the P.P of Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim, and also of Our Lady of Piety Church- Mardol. Rev. Canon Antimo was ardent supporter of Konkani in Roman script and a passionate soccer enthusiast. His implicit obedience to his superiors was his hall mark. He was a devout, sincere, committed priest, following in the footsteps of the Lord, as a priority with first preference. He stood steadfastly by his principles of selfless dedication, honesty, sincerity, accountability, discipline, objectivity, transparency, and fairness. He lives in the hearts and minds of people he touched. He was thus a shining star on the horizon of Archdiocese of Goa and the Educational field. He held responsible and important positions in the Archdiocese of Goa and outside Goa, for which he was admired and highly respected. He was on all India Associations for Higher Education and Catholic Colleges in India, besides being Chairman Principal Forum Non Govt. Colleges, Academic Council of Goa University, reconciliation committee of students and University, sports council of Goa University, Member of Goa Board SHS Education and SSA, Grant in Aid, Vice Chairman of Literary Mission North Goa, President and Treasurer of DKA among others He received honours on Goa Liberation ,Golden Jubilee celebration for socio Educational contribution,2-Mapusa Municipal Council, 3-Principal forum Non Govt Colleges,4-AIAChigher Education, as innovative Principal,5Archbishop of Goa.6-Cuncolim municipality has named a road in his honour 7- Heads of Institutes and friends have founded awards for select DSE school teachers in all categories and award ceremony is scheduled on 15/2/2014 Nelson Lopes Chinchinim *Nelson Lopes* [email protected] 2 Attachments
