No Non-Goan should run cab-services in Goa: GSRP

Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) extends its support to the Taxi Unions - North Goa
Tourist Taxi Owners Association (NGTTOA), South Goa Tourists Taxi Owners
Association (GSTTOA), Federation of Tourist Taxi Owners & Drivers Goa (FTTAG)
and Centre for Responsible Tourism. GSRP stand is that no Non-Goan should run
cab-services in Goa.

Speaking on the issue Floriano Lobo, General Secretary, GSRP, said,"The general
perception that Taxi Operators in Goa are cheats and a mafia in their own
right, is exaggerated to a great extent. There maybe stray incidents of
unexpected behavior from some taxi operators but in general most taxi operators
are hospitable and honest in nature.

We agree that there must be a training and operations methodology to make the
taxi operations more customer-friendly, but allowing a Non-Goan to come in and
try to take-over the taxi business is not acceptable."

The Goa tourist taxi operators who are facing competition from car rental
chains and from tour operators, are now planning to launch a new system of
operations. "This system of customer-friendly operations should be brought in
by the government and not a private-player. The government does not have the
courage to initiate a metered-taxi model through its own departments, instead
it looks at giving a Non-Goan company another reason to put a foot-hold into
what are traditional Goan business operations," expressed Savio Rodrigues,
Secretary & President (Youth Affairs).

Olacabs, claiming to be India's largest platform of car rentals, earlier this
month announced the launch of its point-to-point cab service in Goa.
Olacabs founder Bhavish Aggarwal said recently that Olacabs has got a good
response in Goa with 50 Goan partners already tying up with Olacabs, which now
has a fleet of 75 cars in the state. Olacabs plans to have a total of 300 cars
in Goa within six months.

"Olacabs and Non-Goan companies like these come to Goa projecting themselves as
the Knights in Shining Armour - like the real estate companies who took away
the land of many Goans for peanuts or the Casino companies that now want to get
a strangle-hold on more than just Casinos in the state. BJP and Congress
governments for their part have sold their souls for pennies to these business
houses. Now BJP is doing it with Olacabs. We don't think it is difficult for
the government to create its own system better than Olacabs or Meru, why rely
on a Non-Goan," Rodrigues further added.
