The Supreme Court has very rightly observed that the
only way to rid our country of corrupt elements was to
hang them on lamp posts. Prosecution and subsequent
conviction of corrupt public servants including
Ministers, MPs and MLAs has not been commensurate
with the extent of corruption.
The level of proof required and procedural hurdles
only ensures that a large number of corrupt public
servants are not convicted and even worse flaunt their
ill gotten wealth with impunity. The corrupt public
servant apart from being criminally prosecuted should
also have their ill-gotten wealth confiscated.
We need to make systematic changes to ensure good
governance based on transparency, integrity and
accountability. Goa needs an administration free from
corruption and abuse of authority.
