Candidates selected for elections The major political parties have once again named the candidates with a baggage. The only difference is justifications that such candidates are not charged, convicted or FIR is filed against them. Hence they are pure and undefiled and it is fair and just to consider their candidature. Major political, National or regional parties have host of criminal, declared cases against them pending in the courts. The long period of delivery of justice due to delays, postponement , indirect influence and interference of political parties in power, Fortunately the latest directive of finalisation of all cases within one year, may address the problem of in ordinate delays to some extent For too long the elected representatives have professed more faith in people's court, then the legal justice system, which allowed them long rope due to delays and thus remain un convicted
All the tall talk ,by all major parties to route out corruption and route out the criminals is a hogwash. Fortunately to day the electronic and print media are laying thread bare the double standards of political parties, The educational level of the youth does not make them swallow all the propaganda let loose by the parties. In fact the monopoly of Govt. propaganda is no more the only news available to the public The vast number of news agencies, papers, publications, social media are sources to shift the chaff from the wheat Be it the congress, BJP, SP.BSP, they feed on the criminals, with muscle and money power for their survival and an opportunity to Govern, Nothing matters to any political parties, except win ability at all costs and circumstances, Hence ethics, conscience, propriety, morality are no guidelines to decide the choice of candidates. It is the party that mattered years ago and the credentials of the candidates were non est, as the party was the main considerations. Even now the parties are forcing their illegitimate choices on the elctorate, thinking they know better and openly defying and daring voters to fall in line. In the administration of justice the pliable police, CBI and independent Judiciary are all dependent on the Govt, for their very sustenance .Hence the Govt used these organs to feather their own nest and interests and get rid of uncomfortable. Recent bold stands and stances adopted by the executive even in some rare, isolated cases have been significant, The frequent transfers even with minimum tenure of service advocated , have been flouted by the legislative with impunity, arguing their right and prerogative to administer and transfers without being questioned or accountable At least the NOTA option has been agreed after much debate and procrastination by the politicians. It may not change the results as to the winners, with no provision for re election. After all it is the voters ,who will exercise their franchise to elect the candidates with all their gory past. The blame to elect the tainted representatives, must lie squarely on the shoulders of the electorate In a large ,democratic country , where the literacy is woefully low, such exercise of power is not without reasonable flaws of judgements.The poor , marginalised, uneducated are tempted and swayed by bribes, threats and promises. Therefore the outcome of the elections are stamped with authority, purity and fairness to legitimise the process Whether all the voters will exercise their rights with ultimate care and caution will have to wait and see, There is hope and aspirations that young , female, educated and informed, first time voters will tilt the balance and show the door to the corrupt, criminals, septuagenarians and octogenarians, limpets in politics and thus usher in new India of their dreams Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
