The Goa Su-Raj Party declares its Candidate for the forthcoming LS Elections for the Mormugao Seat [South Goa]
In a press release, GSRP has confirmed that Savio Oliver Ignatius Rodrigues, who is the Party's Secretary and President (Youth Affairs), to be the Party's Candidate for the April 12, 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from the Mormugao (South Goa) Constituency. When asked if the Party is not contesting the Panjim Constituency (North Goa) seat, Mr. Floriano Lobo, GSRP General Secretary said: "We are still deliberating on the choice of the ( woman) candidate and the Party should be coming out with the name shortly." When questioned as to why GSRP has decided to contest the LS Elections when it had not shown any interest in the LS elections before, Mr. Floriano Lobo who is the founding President of the Party said. "Though GSRP is of the view that Parliamentary Elections must be contested only by 'NATIONAL PARTIES' and Assembly Elections by Regional Parties, these LS Elections will be fought on just one major issue which is retaining of Goa's Dabolim Airport as the sole airport for Goa through shifting of the Navy from Dabolim, and an unequivocal NO to the proposed airport at Mopa which is nothing but a mega real estate scam" South Goa, he said, will be voting very sensitively on this one major issue and the future of Goa's Civilian airport at Dabolim since 1955 cannot be left to the vagaries of the National Parties which are blowing hot and cold at different times, thereby wanting to take the people of South Goa for a jolly good ride. When asked 'why Savio Rodrigues', Floriano Lobo responded saying " Dabolim is a passionate issue for GOANS with the Indian Navy's illegal occupation of Goa's Civilian Airport since 1961. It is not enough that the Parent Party is passionate about this sensitive issue. The Party's Candidate too must reflect that passion in not only being passionate but also seen to be passionate about keeping this airport as the sole International airport of Goa which is ideally centrally located. And Savio Rodrigues fits the bill one hundred per cent".
