Merwyn, I haven't seen the proposals. I have a copy of the draft constitution brought out for the Special AGM many, many years ago. However, the proposal fell through. I knew the players who were on the side of the CanOrient and those on the side of the GOA.
I must correct you, Merwyn, that the CanOrient is NOT a Goan association. It has Goan members. I must bring to mind that the International Goan Organization (IGO) was mooted by me (though the present IGO and those associated with it will deny it) for bringing Goan associations under one umbrella, at least for certain functions. Quebec refushed to join because it had objected to certain clauses. I, however, only proposed but disassociated with the GOA executive committee after the International Goan Convention, in 1988, over certain issues. The IGO was taken over by Herculano Dourado, ex-MLA Goa, at the meeting following the International Youth Convention. The IGO is back in Toronto, managed by a small group. It's a long story. I have written about it in the opinion page of Goa's Navhind Times on the day of the start of the Youth Convention, sometime in the early 1990s. There is a Goan association in Hamilton. Elsewhere in Canada too there are Goan associations. Wait and see if the merger comes through. Maybe the fall in memberships and rising maintenance costs of the properties, since both associations hold properties, are reasons to merge. I wish someone posts, at leastin brief, the proposals.
