GSRP welcomes SC decision on reservations of jobs for Third Gender
Goa Su-Raj Party welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court of
india that gives recognition to transgenders as the third gender, directs
government to provide reservation in jobs and education.
Speaking of the path-breaking decision of the Apex Court, Savio
Rodrigues, Secretary & President (Youth Affairs), said, GSRP is the only party
in India to have included the third-gender issues in our Lok Sabha 2014
manifesto. One of our key focused areas was to ensure that there be
reservations for the third-gender in jobs and education.
It is indeed heartening to note that even the SC agrees to our
stand and has passed an order in favor of protecting the rights of the
third-gender to be able to earn a living and educate themselves just like any
other citizen in the country, Rodrigues further added.
The Election Commission of India in the on-going Lok Sabha election
had included the option of others (referring to the third-gender to vote. The
SC decision will assist organization such a GSRP which believes that every
citizen of this country has a legitimate right to be treated as a citizen and
must not be discriminated against on basis of their sexuality or sexual
preferences. We would put up a requisition to the Goa government to also create
reservations in jobs and education for the third-gender in light of the Apex
Court\'s decision, Rodrigues asserted.
