Unique elections 2014 It appears that elections of 2014 are mother of all elections. Then environment preceding the elections, corruption, Nirbhaya rape, Lok Pal and the unprecedented mass uprising in India and abroad have fuelled the interests of the electorate and convinced about such mass protest to bend the politicians and parties. The advent of AAM Party for the first time in Indian politics has unexpectedly rocked the boats of both prominent, invincible National parties. The people are disgusted and yearning for the change. The success of the new AAM party in Delhi raised hopes for a third and viable alternative. In spite of internal, serious differences within BJP, Mr Modi was crowned P.M candidate to lead the battle for the Delhi darbar. The electronic print, and social media capitalised on daily happenings bringing debates, discussions in the drawing rooms and created interests ,awareness and hype like never before., Even the political parties have extensively used social print and electronic media to reach out to the voters. The BJPhas deviated from the normal procedure of announcing the P.M after the elections. The campaign is Modi centric, well thought off, meticulous and the tempo sustained all, throughout is causing jitters in the opposite camp
Previously in the elections, the accent was on more caste, religious and communal lines, There is an subtle attempt of polarisation of votes by both the Congress and BJP, though both the parties are finger pointing at each other for violating the code of conduct. Unfortunately the E.C is kept on its toes and inundated with multitudes of cross complaints Initially the BJP ,P.M. candidate espoused good Governance and development and somewhere down the line traded barbs, chiding the other sides with uncharitable personal remarks,. Congress after exhausting its patience retorted with no holes barred, Hence what we see now is that campaign and propaganda being degenerated into communal and personal, debased, mean, attacks, against each other .For the first time too all the parties have found it expedient to bash Modi., All the issues, policies are relegated to the background, Certainly, the politically awakened populace by a very vigilant media and with impatient youth brigade including the fair sex are making their presence felt, with the message that their aspirations cannot be ignored any more .In the din of electioneering that the BJP held the Parliament to ransom for the first time in our Democracy is all but forgotten and so too the corruption in Karnataka and those of the past president of BJP are not the issues The political parties are treating Modi as untouchable and forecasting authoritarian rule unsafe for minorities and for secular fabric of the Nation .It is a fact that BJP is ruling in many states of India with great satisfaction and Modi is being looked upon as the saviour of deteriorating public life. The voters no longer believe that Congress alone has the monopoly to fly the flag of secularism. With all the vociferous, high decibel, adverse propaganda by the Congress, the Modi juggernaut has not been derailed in Gujarat for 3 successive state elections .It is increasingly visible that the efforts to stop Modi in assuming the P.M role will hopefully not materialise There is MODI wave or tsunami in these elections irrespective of media hype and all attempts are made to target Modi and 2002 riots, laced with snoopgate, fake encounters, his child marriage , which hopefully will not stick. The recent loud noises to arrest Modi on code violations and appointment of commission on snoopgate at this late juncture are indicative of revenge politics and jittery reactions of frustrations The confidence of winning by BJP is dismissed as illusion, but almost resignation by the Congress of the inevitable is writ large on the comments by senior members. The support to third front is further indication of losing battle. By and large the verdict is eminent from the surging crowds, voting percentages, but only the margin of victory or loss is a guess U.K and European Union USA and even Pakistan is not averse to do business with Modi Let us wait and see Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
