'Fodya' was/is also a term of endearment. And used by members of 'in groups.' Of course one has to reflect on the nature of endearment, and this may be hard to grasp. Why? Because most of us live within specific contexts. Certainly not to be used by all, and surely not by those who have something to lose given ways and forms of maintaining attitudes (not beatitudes), for instance prestige, and the like. Forget the notion that women blanched out when they heard the word. Some related to the context. Other constructs (ways of seeing) impact on perceptions. Simple as that. In Konkani there is a contextual aspect which has receded.
An aside. Some of you may have heard, read Edward de Lima's book Influence of Portuguese Vocabulary on Konkani language. Its is dedicated to the memory of Prof. (Dr.) Manohar Rai L. Sardessai and has his verse Khursachi Kanni. The contents include the following: By Way of a Few Words, by Fr. Mousinho de Ataide. Neura, Goa Preface, by Edward de Lima. Porvorim, Goa Introduction: The Konkani Language Missionaries and the Impact on Konkani Effects of the Inquisition on Konkani A New Era Dawns (Photographs) >From the Past to the Present Glossary Bibliography The glossary is columned under Roman Konkani, Devnagiri, Portuguese and English. + + + Venantius J Pinto On Sat, May 17, 2014 at 5:22 AM, Gabe Menezes <[email protected]>wrote: > On 17 May 2014 07:59, Goa World <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > > > > www.goa-world. com GULF-GOANS e-NEWSLETTER (since 1994) > > >>http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/gulf-goans/ http://www.colaco.net/ > > http://www.live365.com/index.live > > >>Tumcam Maie-mogacho ieukar.
