Dear Goanet Friends and Goans readers, Whatever Eugene Correia has said here, it makes sense now. Although people in Goa were against the Modi wave, but now Goans had no choice as the majority of Indians as well as Goans, gave their verdict for Modi to come to power as such I feel now he is the best person among the BJP cadre, who will act and do things faster. As PM he will have lot of power. Goans also voted for BJP as Congress were seen only fighting amongst themselves, and did nothing except CORRUPTION.. Shripad Naik could not do much also in his earlier tenure, as it was a Congress regime in Centre , probably he had no capability to fight the Congress giants, and that could be the reason Goans had a set back. Now these giants in Congress in the Centre, are one by one resigning and perhaps they will not see the light of the tunnel for an another 10 years time minimum. Hopefully the corruption in India and especially in Goa should vanish. Parrikar was upto from day one, for zero corruption mandate, so if he gets the posting in the Centre as Union Home Minister than I have full guarantee that he will show Goans his caliber of his intellectual IIT man, and that Goa will surely get the Special Status which is the need of the hour. Sripad Naik, may not accept to take up the posting at the Center, since two Union Ministers for a tiny Goa will be difficult to approve by the BJP High Command., , therefore lets us make all efforts to see that Parrikar goes to Delhi and work for Goa. These idiots Congress MP/s did nothing for Goa but only fighting among each other for KODEL and MONEY. Another point which Eugene mentioned that Modi promised cleaning Ganga River by 2019 that is by 5 years time , we should see that our Alina in Goa as Environment Minister will get support from Modi and clean our rivers too, that the tisreos and Calvam and other species etc are safe so that the fishes are available at cheaper rates for Goans. As an Environment Minister I surely have hopes now, that she will act fast. I am very happy that she has managed to get BJP votes above 1000 votes in her constituency at Cortalim and that Mauvin and Reginanldo has sucked the dust. I hereby request Alina one thing ; I was supposed to write a special article to her as " OPEN LETTER TO ALINA" but now since the Goanet came from Eugene's write up, this is the request to Alina to act in the interest of Goans. . The important factor which I want Alina to do is, in case there is no Scientific Laboratory in her Dept of Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), which generally all the scientific Dept or Boards, have their installed Chemistry or Microbiology labs, she must gear up to form a well standard laboratory to check the pollutants in rivers, fishes mortality and all the parameters like Oxygen, metals, bio fouling, and other chemical parameters etc, which damage the rivers in Goa with the waste coming from Industries, hotels etc, with garbage, sewage, bad drainage etc so that these so called scientists like Manoj Kumar and other Member Secretary Nitin Sawant cannot fool Alina all the time, which she has blindly believed them and she was forced to make her statement in the Press that the mortality of these clams is "MYSTYERIOUS" and dying due to unknown reasons, and this poor lady Alina, accepted it their verdict without GSBB and other members doing any scientific experiment or analyis. In case she starts with the formation of good standard Laboratory than she will have documents or reports from her own Lab and that she should be able to take decisions. I am surprised that the members of the Board could not have any say for such a blunder which appeared in Press. Please see my article which appeared in Goanet by Niz Goenkar which gives you my message to the public. and that other Press Reporters/Editors are still yet to publish it. :
Stephen Dias Former Scientist of NIO D.Paula GOVERNMENT BEGINS PROBE INTO SHELLFISH MORTALITY ALONG RIVER SAL by Stephen Dias, D.Paula Sunday - May 11, 2014 [image: GOVERNMENT BEGINS PROBE INTO SHELLFISH MORTALITY ALONG RIVER SAL by Stephen Dias, D.Paula] The newspapers of 29th April, 2014, were filled with reports that Goa State Biodiversity Board ( GSBB), State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), National Institute of Oceanography, NIO-D.Paula , Goa State Pollution Control Board, ( GSCPB) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research, ( ICAR ), have carried out investigation of so called “MYSTERIOUS”” clam death in River Sal. The whole of Goa and in particular fisher women I contacted personally know too well that Goan rivers which were producing “tisrious” clams in abundance are showing declining productivity due to added pollutants in water bodies. It was shocking that Mr. Manoj Borkar, a member of GSBB under the Chairmanship of Hon. Minister Alina Saldanha, gave a press statement to local newspapers on 29th April, 2014 which said that there were no external factors which led to pollution of River Sal, and resulted in the mass mortality. This above observation is a serious scientific blunder made by Mr Borkar supported by Mr. Nitin Sawant member secretary of GSBB and others without ascertaining or observing factors which are causing mortality in rivers in Goa. This statement is totally misleading the people of Goa that clams are dying due to “unknown mysterious reasons”, when in fact, that negligent Goa Government and other scientific bodies were unable to detect the obvious reasons of pollution leading to the clam destruction. Some scientists even went to the extent of blaming the physical parameters of temperature and salinity as causes of clams’ annihilation. For the last one month, clams and other marine life is facing dangers of pollution not only the river Sal, but episodes of clam death is observed in river Chapora, Mandovi, Zuari, Tiracol , D.Paula and elsewhere too. It is high time that the Goa Government owes responsibility and the Goa Minister of Environment comes out clear on the aspect of pollution killing our marine life, and very soon the mining operation shall starts, clams will face the threats by mining dusts entering water bodies. Statement made by Hon. Minister of Environment and her associates, said that there are no external poisoning found in the river Sal. ICAR organization says that salinity in tidal zone always varies and so also temperature keeps on changing to season to season and from day and night they never remain constant. The clams are adapted the variation in temperature and salinity including water pressure in centuries and therefore, it is absurd to attribute these above causes, instead of pin pointing at pollution, sewerage and effluent discharge by trawlers, hotels, commercial and housing complexes along with the river bank. NIO earlier have carried out extensive research project work and many reports and publications are available in their library, and therefore it is absurd to attribute or believe that there are mysterious circumstances with no external poisoning or evidence of land based discharge of contaminants/pollutants. Interestingly, I quote exactly what the Hon. Minister of Environment and her members of the board had to say about the mass destruction mortality of the clams. QUOTE: < On Monday Environmental Minister Alina Saldanha requested the Goa State Biodiversity Board ( GSBB), to carry out an urgent field visit, following which the team consisting of Nitin Sawant, Member Secretary of GSBB, Manoj Borkar, its member and others visited several sites along the river Sal. The team interacted with the Velim Panchayat, local fisherwomen and visited Musher jetty and a clam bed site in Velim. This team examined the litoral zone and the surface waters but would not find any evidence of land based discharge of contaminants/pollutants.> Unquote. Would it be nice if Parrikar takes the post if offered as he could process Goa's case for Special Status faster and favourably. He could also take to task his Congress enemies who he has targeted for the mining scam and also for other scams, including the former PWW minister. Goa could gain doubly as the BJP will continue to rule Goa, at least till the next assembly elections, and Parrikar in charge of home affairs at the centre. It's a great opportunity for Parrikar is he takes the post if invited to join the union cabinet. Just as Modi wants to clean the Ganga, MP could do the same for both Mandovi and Zuari. Other small rivers can also be taken care to rid the muck im which breeds the kalvam and tisreo. >From MP's utterings, he seems keen to play a role at the centre. He says he wants to stay in Goa to develop Goa. Goa lacks funds and the centre can provide it as long as the BJP is in power in Goa. The Modi wave hit Goa, and so let now the sun shine on the state. MP could be the rising sun for Goa, as he could also be the rising sun in the BJP. Eugene Correia ==============================================================================
