My dear Nelson. Trust your family and you are well. I agree with you post on several points. Personally, I believe that Congress lost its way. How much of that was due mainly to the fact that they had to make alliances to be in power, I am not sure. There is one thing I would say: The outgoing PM was better off as a Minister of Finance or a Technocrat in that Ministry. I struggled to find ONE other PM anywhere in the world who did precious little to campaign for his party or Government. The inertia was palpable even from a distance. No wonder the people spoke. I am sure that even the Congress are relieved to be in opposition. I'd further add that IF Manmohan Singh was NOT really able to or allowed to function as a full PM, he should have vacated his chair as soon as he came to that realization.....and gone home. BUT, he did not. Back to your own post esp the segment I quoted: I would invite you to think about the following (assuming that you have been reading widely for the past 5 years at least) 1: Do you believe everything you read in the media? 2: Do you believe everything the politicians spout? 3: Do individuals (including politicians, you, me and others) have a right to expression including making off the cuff remarks - as long as they are not libelous or personal in nature? 4: Did you read the near-trillion demeaning anti-personal comments about Sonia and her marriage to Rajiv (even on TOI comments)? 5: Are you saying that What is good for the goose is NOT good for the gander? 6: Are you saying that "New Rules" apply now because Sonia and company are no longer likely to be the prime targets of negative comments? 7: Have you seen Sonia or her children respond to those demeaning personal comments with demeaning comments of their own? 8: Did I (or anybody else) get to see any comments from Nelson Lopes about those demeaning anti-Sonia personal comments? 9: I am not saying that bad governance should not be exposed and dealt with appropriately, It should but minus the innuendo. Besides, IF the issues have to be dealt with - and they should be - if TRUE HOPE has to become a reality - then ALL ISSUES must be dealt with. 10: I sincerely hope that Modi et al succeed in making India SHINING....after all. All of us will benefit. 11: I am not so sure, Yet. Like Thomas the Apostle, I prefer to be skeptical till I 'see and feel'. 12: Politics is a strange field of enterprise. If you have the opportunity ...Read widely about Dr. Antonio Oliveira Salazar. jc
