GSRP condemns Goa MLAs 'Brazil' Junket
Terms it a 'Pat on Back' for LS Support

Goa Su-Raj Party condemns the decision of the Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar to send six Goan MLAs to Brazil to witness the FIFA World Cup 2014 and the failure of the government to send football representatives such as Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Chairman, Dr Rufino Monteiro or famous Goan footballer Bruno Coutinho.

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, and Power Minister Milind Naik have supposedly been given the go-ahead to attend the FIFA World Cup. Speaking on the issue, Floriano Lobo, General Secretary, Goa Su-Raj Party opined," In November 2013 a 38 member delegation visited Germany, Austria and Italy to study garbage disposal. Garbage is still dotting the roadsides of Goa in plastic bags. Two years ago some of the above mentioned MLAs went to Europe under the pretext of bringing the Motor Cross event to Goa. So far Goa has seen nothing on the Motor Cross front and neither a report on it from the MLAs. When the previous government Congress was in the ruling, the Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar along with the current Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai and Goa's Chief Secretary went to Las Viegas on a junket in the guise of tourism and claimed to have gained a lot of knowledge visiting strip-tease bars. This is a shame and a disgrace but such acts will continue because the people of Goa elect national parties believing that they will open the gates of heaven for Goa and Goans. What is actually required is vision and a very strong belt-tightening exercise on the part of Goa's Governments to Goa out of this appeasement lock-jam. Hopefully Goans will remember this in 2017"

Savio Rodrigues, Secretary & President (Youth Affairs) opined it is sad that a hand-picked person such as Dr Rufino Monteiro or Elvis Gomes who are working towards promoting and escalating the cause of football in Goa at grassroot levels are not a part of the team going to Brazil, or for that matter Goa's renowned footballer Bruno Coutinho. I see it as nothing but a 'pat on the back' gift for the MLAs for their support during the Lok Sabha election and its related victory. There is no difference between Congress and BJP both use public-money for their personal gains."
