Hello, Some days back I posted a story chief minister Manohar Parrikar and his remarks on rape.
I was one of the many journalists to err in transcribing his comments. The admission of the inadvertant error was posted, by the newswire service I wrote the story for, in a story which was released to its subscribers twice on Wednesday. http:// <http://news.webindia123.com/news/Articles/India/20140702/2417878.html> news.webindia123 <http://news.webindia123.com/news/Articles/India/20140702/2417878.html> .com/news/Articles/India/20140702/2417878. <http://news.webindia123.com/news/Articles/India/20140702/2417878.html>html <http://news.webindia123.com/news/Articles/India/20140702/2417878.html> http:// <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> zeenews.india.com <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> /news/ <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> goa <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> /rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642. <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> html <http://zeenews.india.com/news/goa/rape-comments-were-not-insensitive-but-misquoted-parrikar_944642.html> http:// <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> m.indiatoday.in <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> /story/ <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> manohar <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> - <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> parrikar <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> -says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573. <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> html <http://m.indiatoday.in/story/manohar-parrikar-says-rape-comments-misquoted-seeks-ban-on-drinking-in-public/1/369573.html> I did err in my judgement as a journalist and admit to the error. I regret the same. The error was inadvertant and embarassing for me as a professional who has been discharging journalistic duties for the last decade and more. I was convinced about my erronous reportage only after Atul Pai Kane put up the post of the same event on Wednesday morning. Until then, I was convinced about the conent of my reportage. The first story mentioning the error was released on the newswire minutes after Parrikar officially tweeted about the error. The second followed subsequently. As a norm, I have refrained from responding to comments made by cheerleaders of a certain governments or political partys, who via their comments have in the past defended the indefensible and attacked the most rational criticism. And will continue to ignore the chorus of ridicule, which accompanies any news story which is not consistent with their interests. But I do thank Anil Desai, Anou Raut Desai and several others for expressing their faith in my stories, although this time, I did fail them in their expectations. I hope my body of work in the past and in the future will help me earn the faith of those who believe in the news stories which I craft. I am posting this message on every Facebook group, Whatsapp group I had originally posted the story on. Shit happened best regards Mayabhushan
