FIFA WORLD CUP FINALS 2014
Brazil could not reach the Finals and they had to be satisfied in 4th place after the bad losses. Final Match Germany vs Argentina and the score finally stood at 1-0 at the Estadium of Maracana Rio de Janeiro-Brazil aided by the referee from Italy Mr. Rizzoli who has performed an excellent job. The game started on 14th July, 2014 at 12.30 AM IST time and the line up from Germany was Neuer, Klose, Ozil, Kroos, Muller, Boateng, Lahm, Humeles, Schweisteiger, Khedira and Hoewedes and from Argentina was Romero, Demichellis, Zabaleta, Garay, Perez, Javier Mascharano, Messi, Higuain, Lavezzi, Rojo, and Biglia. Coach for Germany is Joachim Loew and of Argentina is Alexandre Sabella. Both the teams were in high spirit and the play was superb. Passing was accurate with both short and long passes at both the sides. Throughout the match efficiency of the players were excellent although the commentator was in the opinion that Germany had better possession than Argentina. First fault committed by Muller was at 2.5 minutes. And Higaum shot horizontal to the direction of Goalpost and it went wide at 4 minutes. I noticed that Messi’s speed was much better than the German defenders. First corner was given to Argentina and failed miserably. The first free kick was shot by German player Klose who was not successful. Yellow card was given to Schewiesteiger by referee which he could have avoided as it was not serious. Argentina netted a goal but linesman gave a offside at 30 minutes. Kramer as well as Schurelle of Germany was injured at 31 minutes. Again there was a yellow card to Hovedes of Germany at 33 minutes. Shuller shot well at Romero of Argentina but he saved. Muller was not much upto his standard but overall he has done well. With a corner given by Germany at the last minute the forward of Germany had a goal post shot but the linesman declared it offside. From the first half the score was 0 - 0. At the second half the game was at a much higher level and it was consistent throughout to the end. My opinion was that Germans were comfortable at the back, Messi shot the ball wide at 47 minutes which had a good chance to score but failed. Again Ozil missed a best ball as it went sideways of the goalpost a total wide. Yellow card again was given to Mascareno at 64 minutes and within one minute i.e. on 65 minutes Aquero of Argentina was given Yellow card. The idea of issuing Yellow cards were higher in this Fifa World Cup 2014 compared to earlier ones. May be the referee feels that there should be a discipline among the players otherwise the game could turn into a rough game. Schweisteiger was badly injured at almost end of the game and he had to go out for getting stiches ( suture) but he came back because of his enthusiasm. Aquero was the one who has done the bad deed by using his fingers near the player eyes. The bleeding could be visually seen by the crowd and even the scar after the stiches were in place. Immediately for a short while the game turned rough but it soon resumed with the original spirit. Before the end of the match which everybody was sure that the penalty kick will give the score but the German substitute player Goetze managed to shoot the ball into the net where Romero could not dream to catch. It was such great shot and will surely found that it was the best one in this tournament. Finally the score was 1 – 0 in favour of Germany who got the title of *Winner of the Fifa World Cup 2014*. It feels like Goetze came from the bench just to kick the goal to get the World Cup for Germany. Germany are the World Champions of Fifa World Cup 2014. Golden Ball goes to Messi of Argentina. Golden glove goes to the best Goalkeeper who is from Germany Neuer. James Rodrigues of Columbia got the Golden Boot in 6 goals and 2 assists. Man of the Match went to Goetz of Germany. Klose beat Ronaldo (Brazil) record for maximum numbers of goals. My observations are that FIFA must modify the penalties system at the tournament because penalties cannot be taken as important decision to tell that that particular team is the best. Most of the times it misfires and the lower team can make the scores. What I suggest is that instead of 30 minutes extra time the Fifa should go for 60 minutes and if still there is no score than both the teams can be called next day for an additional match and not to take decision on penalties. *Stephen Dias* *D.Paula* *Mob: 9422443110 * *14/07/14 at 17:40 *
