THE FOLLOWING LETTER IS SENT TO HERALD AND HOPES THEY PUBLISH IT.
To, The Editor Sujay Gupta Herald Panjim Ref: Letter by Dr. Francisco Colaco in Herald today 22.7.2014 titled “MORE AIMS”? The Modi Government has initiated a move to get more AIIMS in all the states because he does not believe the functioning of existing Medical Colleges & Hospitals in this country including private ones, which are not upto his expectations and probably his plans are to improve the standard of getting better medical services with research work oriented in par with the foreign countries. Letter written by Dr. Francisco Colaco who is a Goan and renowned cardiologist in this country writes his comments which I endorse: 1. It is true what Dr. Colaco said about AIIMS in his letter written in Herald today ( 22.7.2014) which I totally agree with all his points. 2. I am surprised that the figure of doctors of AIIMS leaving the country has reached 53% that too permanently and in that case very soon it may go higher. 3. Also it is true that the politicians are the cause of interference in the affairs of Health Services as they have interest to take all the benefits existing in this kind of Institute like AIIMS. 4. Now it appears that there is a plan by the Ministry of Health, Govt. of India to get more AIIMS functioning in all the states of India in view of the existing Medical colleges & Hospitals including private ones do not reach the standard of AIIMS. 5. I feel that the Ministry of Health is firing bullets in the dark and that the CM, Mr Parrikar who is close associate to Modi should be able to recommend suggestions put up by Dr. Colaco. In is imperative to mention that the authorities in Delhi should first put this existing AIIMS tidy before many AIIMS grows in the country. Or else we may not find specialist working in the Govt. Hospitals any more, as the percentage of leaving the country permanently may shoot up. Stephen Dias D.Paula Date: 22.7.2014
