*Dear Esteemed Members of the Print & Electronic Media,*
*CII Goa 2nd Conference on Logistics* *‘New Coastal Feeder Services: Boost for Goa’s Container Trade’* 8 August 2014, 1700Hrs, Vivanta by Taj Panaji Goa *PRESS NOTE* One of the focus areas for CII Goa’s activities has been, working to improve the transport logistics for companies based in Goa. If the logistics can be improved then the transportation costs can come down and Goa based industry can become that much more competitive. Today much of Goa’s foreign trade moves through the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) located close to Mumbai and not through Marmagoa Port. This is because, up to now there has not been a coastal feeder service connecting Goa and JNPT, and has resulted in heavy movement of containers and trucks by road between Goa and JNPT. Goa is a major centre for Indian Pharmaceutical production and even pharmaceutical exports which mainly move in refrigerated containers have been going by road to JNPT. With a new feeder service about to commence between Goa and JNPT, CII is pleased to host its 2nd Conference in Goa on Logistics to highlight this important development for the trade in Goa. Kirit Maganlal, Chairman, CII Goa Council said “It gives CII great pleasure to host our second conference on Logistics in order to highlight the importance of the commencement of the new coastal feeder service from Goa, and bring it to the attention of all who are involved in the import and export trade in Goa”. The new service will start later this month using a brand new purpose built vessel constructed in Goa by Chowgule Shipyard at their Loutolim yard. The service will be operated by Shreyas Shipping, leaders in the coastal container trade in India. Capt V K Singh, CEO of Shreyas Shipping & Logistics Ltd said “It is a matter of pride for Goa and the country that an India flag container vessel built in a Goa Shipyard will commence the new service between Goa and JNPT. This will help in shifting container movement from road to sea which is the need of the hour, and also help develop coastal transhipment at Indian terminals. The trade in Goa will surely benefit through reduction in their logistics costs as well as from increased safety of their cargo. As we approach the 67th Independence Day, we would like to dedicate this service to the nation and request the trade to take full advantage by partnering with us on this service”. Thanking you, Yours sincerely, *Kirit Maganlal* ---------------------------------------------------------------- <javascript:_e(%7B%7D,'cvml','[email protected]');> Kirit Maganlal Chairman - Goa Council <javascript:_e(%7B%7D,'cvml','[email protected]');> Confederation of Indian Industry <javascript:_e(%7B%7D,'cvml','[email protected]');> 502, Unitech City Center, <javascript:_e(%7B%7D,'cvml','[email protected]');> M.
