Our old habits and customs whenever we used to attend the exposition of St Francis Xavier at Old Goa all those years, is to pray and burn the candles at the feet of this Saint . After hearing the Mass we used to go for a drink for Beer or Whisky and sometimes we used to bet with friends who can drink beer from the bottle directly and quickly and that person was getting the prize. Play some games in the stalls,. After that without forgetting the Chourico Pao was in our menu. That was fun and enjoy the Feast of our St Francisco Xavier in these stalls. Those days we will never get. We used to attend novenas by cycling or walking as our parents never used to give us cars and only minimum cash. The stalls were full of "FESTACARS" and on our way back home,a balloon or a whistle, grams or kaideobodeo was a part of the celebration.. Then again at home in the evening celebrate the Feast with our deshi Caju Feni and that was our Happy Feast. Now there won't be any fun , as our Chief Minister has given a clarion call to all the bars and stalls at Old Goa not to supply or serve any hot drinks during these novenas and feast. What a stupidity of Parrikar, by spoiling our fun at Old Goa. Does he has a plan to finish Christian festivals? We Goans which includes Hindus , Muslims were used to come to the Feast and pray and go inside the Se Cathedral and at Bom Jesus and burn the candles and adore this Saint. These Hindus will also curse this Chief Minister for banning liquor at Old Goa. I must asked whether he will do to other feasts where the Hindus brothers are celebrating their usual way in their areas at Ponda , Banastarim , Sanguem, Battulem, Sirgaum, Mala, Boca de Vaca and other places of workship if he puts a ban , where bars and restaurants are available? If he does that surely his future ambition coming back to power will be dim. My fervent request to the Chief Minister, please do not make us feel out of place at Old Goa without drinks. We are not drunkards , we can take care of drunkard tourists if they make nuisance. Get back his orders and let Goans ENJOY THE FEAST of our SAINT> Thank You.

There has been no request to this effect from the Church and the Old Goa Panchayat has also strongly opposed it. The claim by Manohar Parrikar that people will drink and go to Church is just another of his crazy thought. Nothing of this sort has ever been witnessed during all the earlier expositions and even at the Feast of St Francis Xavier every year. Will the Chief Minister?s next move be to ban sale of pork and beef at Old Goa to play to keep content those fanatics within his party cadres. The late night sale of liquor across Goa should instead have been the Chief Minister?s concern. After that Panaji Pub sword attack the Chief Minister had promised to clamp down on late night sale of booze. But he was quick to make a U Turn. Was it to secure the vested interest of Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni whose to be son-in-law runs a very busy pub at Candolim serving liquor all the way till sunrise? Another concern of the Chief Minister should be the widespread sale of illicit and spurious liquor across the State. One of the kingpins in this business is his BJP Taleigao Mandal Chief who has a string of outlets in Panaji and Porvorim specializing in this network of selling spurious liquor. His family has been running this nefarious trade for decades while astutely being in good books with the political party in power. After cozying with the MGP and later Congress governments their trade now continues to thrive with their loyalty now swapped to the BJP. By making a Parivartan from party to party the family has kept their sale of duplicate liquor bottles booming. An now this illegal trade continues to thrive with the blessings of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who though fully aware of this criminal rot. But as usual it?s Zero action against the corrupt.
