A friend of mine sent me a link for the following video a few days ago:

I could see it only today, and I was aghast (to put it mildly) with what I saw. The type of language used by the MLA is truly astounding. And the way he was trying to brow beat the police into allowing an illegal happening is frightening. What is worse is the abject way the top police officer has reacted, as if the whole event was a small thing. Coming after the arrest after a similar event near Pune, I am surprised that this report did not receive any serious mention in the newspapers in Mumbai. I do not know how it was covered in Goa.

I wonder if any member can provide us all with further inputs.

RAVE AND RANT: The report is based on an RTI application filed by an Opposition party.

Goa has always been the preferred hotspot for parties, enjoyment and unwinding.

Indian and foreign tourists swing to blasting music at various beach parties, flouting all time restrictions and violating court orders.

The "fun" not just limited to the blatant disregard for laws, it usually translates into uncontrolled usage of drugs and narcotics.

CNN-IBN got access to one such party at Congress MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu's residence.

All complaints by locals to the police to intervene went futile, not because the police couldn't do much, but because they were just not allowed to.

Deshprabhu was seen using his political position to prevent the police from carrying out investigation.

A radio-taped conversation, available with CNN-IBN, shows just how blatantly police are influenced into inaction by those in power.

Here is an excerpt from the conversation that took place between Deshprabhu and the local Police Control Room:-

Police Officer: Yes, Malik Hawaldar here.

Deshprabhu: MLA Deshprabhu talking. My property has been blocked by police personnel and jeeps. They have entered without permission.

Police Officer: All vehicles?

Deshprabhu: Tell that liar, thief of Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC), Mr Allan D'sa, his persons have robbed money from all foreigners here. Narayan Gawas lathi-charged the foreigners.

Police Officer: When?

Deshprabhu: Few moments back. I have given this report to DIG Ujjwal Mishra. Tell those ANC people that the party is going on at Jitendra Deshprabhu's property.

After making sure that his message gets across to the police and the anti-narcotics cell, the MLA then turned his attention to the people who had complained about the party going on in his premises.

Deshprabhu: How many calls have you got that the party is going on?

Police Officer: From Pernem?

Deshprabhu: Pingurlekar of Pernem is a sarpanch. He has complained. He complained to you because he has not received the money he was asking for.

Then, he dealt with matter at hand: the party that's going on within his property. He told the police control room to withdraw all their vehicles and men from there.

Deshprabhu: Hello...
