Congrats to the 'Advance research' by Hon'Andrew... very interesting

....as for my research .....its not going any where....I am not getting any
co-operation from the Velliapura royal family which makes me think.... as to
what could be the reason for this '...under the rabbit ears' attitude towards
this issue. Keeping aside the regional card or the allegation of thief and
robbery and absence of law enforcing authority in the Velliapura royal site I
will get back to this matter. First let me open a discussion here on Goanet,
could be the Catholic church bring in some dispute with the Velliapura family
for still harbouring this, will the long arm of the church come after this
family with some motion of censure (write to me here on Goanet or privately to
my email pls.)

let me put before Goanet readers. Velliapura site is an important place in
Roque Santana history along with his father he held several secret meetings
planning his contribution to Goan freedom struggle, it have been brought to my
notice that during the freedom struggle young Roque Santan with his associates
in pre liberation times use to disappear from Portuguese surveillance and
cross over into Karnataka and spend time with this pilgrims families and used
this foreign borderline villages as launching grounds for his attacks on the
Portuguese Rule. After Liberation of Goa he made the announcement for early
Goan Democracy from this Velliapura site and with the declaration of election
he was approached by the people of Ambelim to contest as their representative.
Many centuries earlier Velliapura site served as a Southern Capital
headquarters for many Goapuri Kadamba Kings and many events recorded in history
about Velliapura.

After the sudden passing away of Roque Santan in Jan of 2007 while on a visit
to United States of America. After his cremation in Brooklyn NY, the Urns
containing his mortal remains where flown in this country of his birth, India
and the land he loved, Goa by his family and laid to rest along the memorabilia
of his royal ancestors as per his wish in the Velliapura royal compound, at the
hands of the then Goa Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat, the following December
a rival group of Haliyal hereditary workers different from Upadia/Nilkant Sah
combine during their visit to Velliapura cracked open the marble tabernacle and
opened the Urns and managed to take away what ever they could. This pilgrims
mostly come from four groups of Uttara kannada, namely Gonds, Halakis,
Havyak and Siddis. With no presence of law enforcing authority around an aide
brought this matter to the notice of the grieving widow AnaEmerita in tears in
a spurt of anger was heard
saying to the group to leave the Urns alone and take away the rest and worship
where ever they want and left the compound. The ancient foot long Kannada stone
inscriptions and the rest of the antiques were part of the worship area there.
Later when the Upadia/Nilkand sah combine appeared the flowing year they were
charged of thief and robbery for important ancient antiques which went missing
following their last years visit and having denied access to genuine pilgrims,
their dirge, an outburst, but fortunately for us ' the secrets of Velliapura'
were known to the outsiders.

As gathered from the available history the Kadamba sovereigns were hailed and
worshiped as 'Dharma Maharajah' or as 'Kadambarasa' meaning supreme or Gods or
Godly or sovereign, the members of this hereditary coterie visit Velliapura
royal site to pay homage to this ancient place and call themselves 'Pilgrims'.
Roque Santana during his life time like his father received all of them who
came across the ghats and reciprocated love and respect to this pilgrims here
in Velliapura.

Karnataka Government hold a 3 day festival every December in Banavasi to
celebrate the memories of glorious Kadamba Kings and invite all the subjects
of now Kadamba commonwealth, from the ancient Kadamba Kingdoms of Bayalnad,
Bankapur, Uchchangi, Nagarkhanda, Kalinga, Belur, Hangal and Goapuri, the area
which were governed by Kadamba Raviverma Deva is today divided into parts of
Maharashtra, Andhrapradesh, Madhyapradesh now Chhatisgrah, Kerala, Tamilnadu
and State of Goa and Karnataka. If there is an invitation or not Goa being the
part of the common wealth, Goa Government should send a cultural troop to
Banavasi for the festival every December.

Unable to get any information, my open question along with the Kadamba Coterie
disciples, to the Velliapura royal family is what went missing from the royal
compound? What is happening with regards a ' meet' ? between the aging members
of the coterie disciples and the 42nd successor to founder of the Kadamba
Hangal reign, Mr Sanjay eldest son of Roque Santan wouldn't this news be
interesting...
