I am posting below the reply I gave on the ANG facebook page, which had the same letters that Floriano Lobo has posted on this forum. I add that no time or opportunity is wasted in bringing the same issue ofr Liberation/Annextion by those who cannot sleep soundly over it. It's not the last time we will hear the same refrain. The case of Canadian Goans of Pakitani-origin is a differemt issue, as I have explained. ----
I must say that the problems facing Goans from Pakistan residing in Canada is the same as that applies to Pakistan-origin residents wishing to visit India. This has come so many times in the past. This issue has been thrashed with the Indian consulate and I remember the issue was also raised with the ex-minister of state for foreign affairs, Eduardo Faleiro, The applications for visas to India by Pakistani-origin people, whether they stay or are citizens of Canada or in Timbuktu come under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Those Canadian Goans of Pakistani origin must be advised to apply very early. The NRI Commissioner must follow up with the Foreign Ministry so that the advisory from the ministry goes out to Indian mission in Canada. Mixing the issue of Goa's Liberation/Annexation with this one and bringing in Nehru does not help the issue. Unfortunately, I don't see any laxity for Goans when the Pakistani-born citizens are subject to the highest security standards. The Ministry can help in expediting the applications if the NRI Commissioner directly communicates with the minister of overseas affairs and the foreign minister. --- Eugene
