We do not regret to announce the demise of Regina (Rosy) Carvalho, age 87 years, wife of late Salvador Carvalho residing in Khoirut, Aldona, Goa on Sunday 12 October 2014.
Instead we are grateful that she led a healthy and wonderful life till the end. We are grateful that she has touched, moved and inspired so many people around her. But most importantly, we are grateful that she was an integral part of our daily life and that her life continues to motivate us to live our life to the fullest. Rosy Carvalho may not have won any Nobel laureates or held any professional designations to her name. But she did hold some important titles in her lifetime- that of a wife, mother, grand mother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend… As mother to 7 children, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grand children and counting, she showed us through example what it is to love with all your heart. She and Papai created a happy and loving family-A secure nest for us her fledglings to soar and fly to conquer all corners of the globe. She will be dearly missed. Mamai will continue to live on- through her gentle teachings, our memories of her, through the way we live our lives and through her eyes which have been donated to give sight to the blind. Often, (when I was least expecting it) Mamai would ask me (like most Goan grandmothers ask their eligible Goan grandchildren in the hope of having more Goan great grand children), “When are you getting married?” While I would gasp for breath searching for a reply, my grandma would take it a step further and say “I want to dance at your wedding!” Regaining my bearings, I would remind her that we need to first find an eligible Goan guy. She would then make me say one Hail Mary, Holy Mary. Every time. So often, that I took it for granted that Mamai will be there to dance at my wedding. But you know what? Mamai will dance at my wedding. Everything falls into place. Everything has a time, a reason, a season. And even eligible bachelors miraculously appear when a Goan Grandma says her prayers directly from heaven. Mamai will dance at my wedding. And I will know! Because my Mamai promised she would! Funeral Mass on 14th Oct 2014 at 4.00 pm at St Thomas Church, Aldona, followed by burial at the Cemetery. Please do pray for my Mamai and my family to bear this loss.
