CPI(M) Condemns Denial of Fundamental Right to Protest The Goa State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned the BJP-led Goa Government's order prohibiting the peaceful protest of the striking CCP workers at the Azad Maidan . The anti-democratic order has been promulgated by the District Magistrate on the express request of the CCP Mayor who is a Congress-person, and the CCP Commissioner who is a BJP-appointee. The order is a clear violation of the Constitutionally given Fundamental Right to assemble peacefully.
The CPI(M) has called upon the CCP authorities to give up their childish attitude of not negotiating on the simple and genuine demands of the workers who are demanding enhancement of daily wages, Sunday and Public Holidays as paid holidays, regularisation of eligible workers, and grant of Assured Promotion Scheme to those completing 10 /20 /30 years of service. The CPI(M) has underlined the fact that about 90 per cent of the workers are Dalits who are involved in conservancy and hygiene sectors of the CCP's functions. It is an irony that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is rooting for Swachch Bharat, the Goa govt are persecuting the very workers who have to work for Swachch Panaji.
