*Dempo hold Sporting Clube de Goa to goalless draw*
In a fierce Panjim derby, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Dempo Sports Club in the Aiff’s U-19 I-League at Sesa ground, Sirsaim, on Monday. Sporting Goa created half a dozen great chances in each half but failed to capitilise. Dempo custodian Alison Fernandes who recently joined from the Flaming Oranje came to his sides rescue on a number of occasions. Sumit Ghosh could have easily had a hat-trick in the first half. He hit the cross bar with a rasping free kick and moments later should have done much better with his shot after Akeraj Martins and James Fernandes did the initial spade work. Sumit was then unlucky when he saw his header from a free kick trickle just past the post. James Fernandes could have also netted a hat-trick for Sporting Goa. His volley from Quan Gomes’ cross beamed just past the post. In the second session, James was guilty of missing a sitter from handshaking distance and as the game progressed his powerful shot was pushed on to the post by the Dempo goalkeeper. In the closing stages, Dempo started to turn the tables with some quick attacks going forward. Vinit Bugde nearly broke the deadlock when his cross turned shot had the Sporting Goa flapping to turn the ball away to safety. At the death, Vinit’s stinging volley was just wide of the mark.
