The Goa government has finally today once again advertised the post of two State Information Commissioners. There has been no State Information Commissioner since 2010. The selection process however is set to be only a mere formality and an eyewash as the BJP has already zeroed on the two persons they want to accommodate as Information Commissioners who would enjoy a plum salary and perks on par with the Chief Secretary.
Interestingly the post of Chief Information Commissioner has not been advertised despite the post scheduled to be vacant on January 31st when the incumbent Leena Mehendale retires. Sources reveal that the Government at the instance of Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni is contemplating rewarding Justice U.V. Bakre with that coveted position as Chief Information Commissioner after he retires as High Court Judge on February 26 th. Justice Bakre is known to be very close to Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni and had even along with his wife as ‘Dampatya’ graced a puja performed at his private office on 18th June Road in Panaji.
