It could not be immediately ascertained the exact motive behind the incident, even as Church authorities informed Herald that a stone throwing incident was reported around a month ago damaging a glass when the Eucharist was exposed for veneration in the Church.Last night’s incident is believed to have occurred around 12.30 am when the Eucharistic celebration on the occasion of New Year had just begun. The parishioner, who was standing outside the Church, sustained head injuries after the stone landed on his head. The incident came as a shock to the parishioners as the victim was rushed to Hospicio hospital.Margao PI Sudesh Naik informed that a posse of policemen who were posted around the Church did head towards the direction of the stone, but could not find anyone there. He said though no case is registered in connection with the incident, the Margao police are investigating the matter.St Sebastian Church Parish Priest Fr Ligorinho Da Costa said the incident occurred when the Eucharistic celebration was underway. “I was briefed about the incident after the Mass. At this stage, I cannot suspect anyone. Let the police investigate the matter and come out with the motive.”
