I have heard from small time shack owners that there has been a significant
drop in tourists.Nowithstanding the fact that tourism has provided economic
benefits to Goa, it is my observation thatmost of the hotels/restaurants are
owned by non-Goans  and most of the waiters and other hotel employees are also
non-Goans.  To the ordinary Goan, tourism has been a mixed blessing.  It has
been primarily responsible for a chaotic traffic scene in Goa, and has
increased the price of commodities such as vegetables and fish, as the best
catch goes to hotels.  I attribute some of thetrash and litter strewn across
our once beautiful Goa, to tourists who have scant respect for our
environment. From my viewpoint at least, I am glad that there has been a drop in
tourists.  Good riddance I say.
