Update from the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute ..
Crowds had been filling up the GALLE FACE GREEN canonization venue overnight and by 2am the grounds were nearly full with thousands who entered through 8am. Over half a million came for the canonization mass which just ended at 1030am. Several vendors are selling food and souvenir items along the roads leading up to the venue. A couple of thousand Goans have made the trip to be at this historic occasion. The entire Mass lasted about two hours. There is great excitement all around, commencing with the Pope arriving around 0800am in the papalmobile. Goa finally got its first saint, Saint Joseph Vaz at 0844am when he was officially declared a saint by Pope Francis. The long wait is over. The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute would like to publicly thank the Sri Lankan Ministry of Mass Media for going out of their way to welcome our representatives. One of us was afforded tarmac access during the arrival of the Pope yesterday to witness close up all the arrival activities. In addition, three representatives attended the Inter-religious last evening where the Pope shared the stage with Buddhist monks, a Muslim Imam, and a Hindu priest. Three representatives were given close access to the altar today to witness the ceremonies. The Ministry could not have been more helpful. Thank you.
