Is“nt there some phenomenon known as "photographic memory" ?

Dear Alfred,

You can read more about 'photographic memory' (or eidetic memory) at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_memory

Unfortunately that controversial ability of total recall does not answer Gilbert's plagiarism. Gilbert's case is unique in that he can replicate images (and large volumes of text) from memory but he fails to recall the original source and feels (or at least makes it appear) that these are his original creations. A sort of selective photographic memory where sources/credits are unconsciously (or deliberately) forgotten.

Cheers!

#1 Sunith, The "Go Frederick, Go!" was just meant to score a small pointin our complex world of cyberpolitics, and I can assure you it wasn't targeted at you. Don't take it too seriously.

#2 You'll guys have hijacked this issue and turned it into one solelyfocussed on academic plagarism. (In the bargain we have also used theoccasion to score points against and pilloried Dr Gilbert Lawrence, for a book on Goa which he wrote, and which has nothing to dowhatsoever with his reputation as a medical professional.)*

Dear Fred,

#1 Has Selma given you the duty of explaining what she meant, from what she said? How can you so confidently state what she meant?

#2 There has been no hijacking of the plagiarism issue. I have focused on Gilbert's plagiarism because his book is about Goa, this is a Goa related forum, and Gilbert is present here to defend (or admit to) his unethical acts. Nobody is being pilloried. Gilbert's reputation as a 'medical professional' is not being questioned here. The contents of his book are. If anything it is you Frederick who is trying to steer this debate away from an actual factual case of blatant and voluminous plagiarism (Gilbert's book 'Amchi Khobor') to some generic academic argument on Creative Commons and what not else.

And could you explain to us why suddenly you are being the voice box for Selma and Gilbert. Have any of them approached you and confessed an inability to express themselves? Have they given you a virtual Power of Attorney to represent them on GoaNet? How much do you charge for such services? Or does flattery and free books suffice?

Cheers!

Cecil

And for those not interested in the debate on plagiarism here's a good idea to check out and implement.

What is Earth Hour?

It sounds simple, but it is very, very dramatic. At 7.30pm on March 31st 2007, we will be encouraging companies, government departments, individuals and families to turn off their lights for just one hour. If we meet our objectives during the first Earth Hour, the savings in green house gas emissions will be the equivalent of taking 75,000 medium sized cars off the road for one whole year! Now that's something worth doing.
