IT IS ADVANTAGE AAP IN DELHI As largely expected and forecasted all exit polls are indicating majority and victory for APP with Congress apparently being pulverized and decimated. In a Democracy there must be a equally strong opposition to exercise checks and balances. In Delhi politics the earlier presence of BJP and Congress did not enthuse the electorate on failed promises, Once elected everything s over and representatives act brazenly with arrogance and act with impunity and the voters have lost their sting and become voiceless once the representatives are in the saddle.
What went wrong in Delhi. ? There was no leader of BJP it could project. BJP delayed the elections thinking it would manipulate and win by Hello effect of P.M .Modi, as it did in some states in recent elections. The incumbency period had deep impact in many states as a conceivable factor. The parachuting, poaching on IAC functionaries like Bedi, Shazia did not go well with local , faithful leadership, The new import was considered as master stroke to upset the apple cart of AAP. The internal revolt and dissension was mowed down with iron hand, but the hurt feelings and sidelining loyal members was brewing underneath like a volcano and hence it was not a united front. AAP had enough time to regroup, express regret for inexperience and build its stock with lower middle class, marginalized and those on the periphery .AAP was also an better alternative, having earlier campaigned against corruption further demanding Lok Pal,reforms in judiciary, CBI, safety of women. The youth brigade threw its might with AAP giving its whole hearted support with active involvement. The brief stint in power saw quick, determined action for a change. The elections campaign was on issues dear to the heart of the people and which touched their lives and aspirations. On the other hand BJP carried on malicious, personal campaign against AAP leader and the negativity backfired. Bedi ran away from public debate with ludicrous, unconvincing reasons. In fact her poor utterances, saffron scarf on statue etc had to be defended by BJP as an innocent political novice, unable to articulate her vision. She poured scorn and vitriolic snide on her old and close friend and appeared undignified, uncharitable in her choices of description. The massive presence of Central Ministers had luke warm effect The storm unleashed on donation by cheques, disclosed 9 months earlier were blown out of legal proportion just a 3 days before. The poor showing of Congress led to migration of votes to AAP and it is a substantial gain Arwind in his public appearance has shown maturity, brilliantly articulating his stand on issues without being mean, derogatory and personal and which won admiration among voters, thereby showing his maturity with age. The star campaigner shone in parliamentary elections because of incumbency factor exposure of massive corruption, policy paralysis of UPA II and being insensitive to women safety and dragging it feet on Lok Pal Modi was eloquent in crystallizing, attacking central leadership and promising the moon. In 8 months in office P.M vexes eloquent, but remains silent in Parliament and does not indicate his mind on important issues, There is increasing pressure on Hidutva agenda and frequent polarization on religious and communal lines. The so called fringe elements, RSS and others seem to have a field day with tacit support of party in power and getting emboldened to openly propagate their programmes The elections in Delhi is bound to have its echo in subsequent elections as a referendum of inactions by BJP at the centre of any substantial reforms promised Nelson lopes Chinchinim
