Manohar Parrikar like Dr Manmohan Singh has been a mute spectator with his eyes and ears shut to the rampant corruption around. The only difference is that unlike the former Prime Minister, Manohar Parrikar and his family have been direct beneficiaries of this widespread corruption.
Just two days ago addressing a public meeting at Panaji, Manohar Parrikar had tried to gain public sympathy by feigning how poverty stricken a politician he was being unable to even buy a residential premises in Panaji. Manohar Parrikar should explain to the people of Goa how he and his family have acquired such huge mind-boggling movable and immovable assets over the last few years. His younger son Abhijat Parrikar is now putting up a mega 5 crore Eco-Tourism project at Netravali in Sanguem on the massive land which he acquired in 2012 after Manohar Parrikar became Chief Minister with even that controversial mutation all hurriedly done in just a day. Abhijat Parrikar’s proposal for this project came up before the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board at its meeting on 7th February. The 13 member board headed by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, possibly smelling a rat, decided to seek the input from the Forest department as the project is being set up in a Forest area. Once the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board gives it’s in principle approval for any project all other permissions and licences automatically follow. Sources in the Secretariat reveal that there is a move to also further help Abhijat Parrikar by invoking Section 7 of the Goa Investment Promotion Act 2014 which allows the government to notify any area as an “Investment Promotion area”. Once this is done all local laws and rules including the Municipal, Panchayat and other regulations would cease to apply to the project. Sources also reveal that Manohar Parrikar’s younger brother Avduth Parrikar has now become Goa’s de-facto Robert Vadra while acting as a broker and facilitator in finalizing and settling all hurdles faced in government projects and multi crore deals. Shame on you, Manohar Parrikar. You now stand further exposed with your hands deeply soiled in corruption. It is time you apologise to the people of Goa and seek a safe exit from Goa’s political turf.
