FIR against Calangute MLA for demolishing 'dance bar' NT NETWORK CALANGUTE: The Calangute police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against local MLA Michael Lobo for allegedly taking law in his hands and leading a mob to demolish an alleged dance bar Mahifil with the help of an earthmover on Saturday afternoon at Umtawaddo in Calangute.
Sources from the Calangute police said that owner of the bar Gajendra Singh has lodged a complaint against Lobo in this regard. In his complaint, Singh has said that a mob of around 25 persons led by Lobo demolished his business premises with the help of an earthmover. The bar owner has also stated in his complaint that he had all the necessary licences to carry on with his business and that there was no illegal activity going on in his premises. The police have registered the FIR for trespassing, rioting, theft, damage and assault and has booked the case under Sections 143, 144, 145, 147, 148, r/w 149, 454, 380. No arrest has been made as yet in the case. According to police, the premises of Norms and Agni Night Club were also damaged. However, no complaints have been filed by the owners of the premises. Police said that in the morning, Christie La Music Café was also demolished by a mob using an earthmover after the premises was set on fire. When Lobo was contacted, he said that the government machinery has failed to stop all the illegal dance bars in Calangute. He said that this was a clear message to anyone, who tried to get involved in nefarious activity in Calangute. Lobo said that people from Calangute and Candolim should take responsibility and see to it that no illegal activity takes place once they rent out their premises. He said that the people of Calangute will not stop the fight against dance bars as they have brought a bad name to the coastal belt. He said that he has plans to go ahead with his indefinite hunger strike in Calangute on Monday and that his next target would be drug peddlers.
