Panaji Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai has been urged to recuse
himself from investigating the cheating case against his mentor former
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

In a letter to Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai, a copy of which has been
sent to Goa’s Director General of Police it has been conveyed that there
are bonafide reasons to believe that the investigation into the complaint
is being derailed by Rajendra Prabhudessai as he is a protégé and blue eyed
boy of the accused Manohar Parrikar.

On 6th February a complaint was filed at the Panaji police station accusing
the former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Nilesh Amonker of having
cheated and caused multi-crore loss to the State exchequer in illegally
renting private premises to house government offices at Patto Plaza in
Panaji.

21 days later Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai on 27th February in a
written statement to the Panaji Chief Judicial Magistrate stated that the
preliminary inquiry into the complaint against Manohar Parrikar was still
on.

Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai high-handedly and contrary to law
has dragged his feet in the investigation of the case. Inspector Rajendra
Prabhudessai with the blessings of Manohar Parrikar continues as Police
Inspector of Panaji since 12th February 2012 which is well over three years.

Rajendra Prabhudessai being the protégé of Manohar Parrikar is the only
Police Inspector in the State not transferred despite such a long tenure.
All other Police Inspectors have been moved around, some in less than a
year if not months.

Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai instead of trying to botch and scuttle the
investigation only to shield and save his mentor Manohar Parrikar should in
the interest of justice recuse himself and hand over the case for a free
and fair investigation to an Officer who is not a caged parrot.

The Panaji Chief Judicial Magistrate is scheduled to hear on 13th March the
petition seeking directions to the Panaji Police to register an F.I.R
against Manohar Parrikar and Nilesh Amonkar. It has been also sought that
the Court monitor the investigation as the accused Manohar Parrikar and
Nilesh Amonkar who are politically well connected were being shielded by
Panaji Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai.
