A protest dharna will be held tomorrow Friday March 20th at 9 am outside
the Mapusa Court to launch a public agitation to demand the suspension of
the charge sheeted and now awfully tainted Judge Ms Dvijple Patkar.

It is very anguishing that for the first time a public demonstration has to
be held before a Goa Court. But we cannot remain mere spectators to a
charge sheeted Judge continuing to preside over the Temple of Justice. We
need to do everything possible to strengthen the Independence and Integrity
of the Judiciary.

It is highly improper for someone charge sheeted by the police to
shamelessly continue discharging duties as a Judge. Instead of pulling her
political strings to hang on to that chair, Judge Patkar should have
herself stepped down in this darkest ever and very sordid shameful chapter
for Goa’s Judiciary.

Margao Police on 5th March 2015 filed a charge sheet against Judge Dvijple
Patkar and two others under Sections 498-A (b), 323, read with Section 34
of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The charge
sheet was filed after police investigating a First Information Report No
502/2014 dated 3rd November 2014 registered against Judge Dvijple Patkar
and others.

Judge Dvijple Patkar who is currently Civil Judge Senior Division and
Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa has now been summoned by Margao
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) s to appear in Court as an accused
on April 7th at 2.30 pm and face the trial.

Judge Patkar may feel she is innocent and has been framed. Her innocence or
guilt will be decided only by the Courts. While she remains charge sheeted
and an accused of criminal offences by no stretch imagination can she have
any moral authority to continue as a Judge. Like Tarun Tejpal and every
other accused she should face the law as she is no exception to the wheels
of Justice.
