An hour long protest dharna was held yesterday outside the Mapusa Court to mark the launching of a public agitation seeking the suspension of the now charge sheeted Judge Ms Dvijple Patkar.
For the first time a public demonstration had to be held before a Goa Court to protest against Dvijple Patkar continuing as a Judge despite being charge sheeted by the police for alleged criminal offences. The over 100 agitating crowd shouting slogans condemning and denouncing Judge Dvijple Patkar. A three member delegation met the Mapusa Administrative Judge N.S. Amonkar and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention to ensure that Judge Patkar keeps away from Judicial work and goes on leave till the High Court decides on what action to take against her. Judge Amonkar assured the delegation that he would convey to Judge Patkar the demand of the agitators. It is highly improper for the charge sheeted Dvijple Patkar Patkar to continue discharging duties as a Judge. She should have herself stepped down in this darkest ever and very sordid shameful chapter for Goa’s Judiciary. Margao Police on 5th March 2015 filed a charge sheet against Judge Dvijple Patkar and two others under Sections 498-A (b), 323, read with Section 34 of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The charge sheet was filed after police investigating a First Information Report No 502/2014 dated 3rd November 2014 registered against Judge Dvijple Patkar and others. Judge Dvijple Patkar who is currently Civil Judge Senior Division and Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa has now been summoned by Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Reina Fernandes to appear as an accused before her on April 7th at 2.30 pm and face the trial.
