OUR POLITICIANS PRIORITIES It is reported that as Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao of Telangana to keep his vows to the Gods, has reportedly directed the State administration to release Rs6.14 crore and place orders worth 5 crore gold necklace and chains for Tirumala Venkateswara temple, the Bhadrakali temple in Warangal gets a golden crown worth Rs57 lakhs, and golden nose studs Rs75,000/- for Kanka Durga temple and Rs 45,000/-Padmavati temple. The government will also spend Rs2.5 lakh for a chadar offering to Durgah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer! It is also reported that the Modi government expenses on Council of Ministers travel bill is Rs 317 crores, more than the UPA government last year for similar period . Right from the subsidized canteen at the Parliament to their perks and privileges, austerity in government is lacking. Contrast this with the National Para Olympics being held in Ghaziabad. Basic accommodation and toilet facilities pathetic. It is reported that the building is under construction and they have to sleep on the floor. So is the poor food and lack of ramps, availability of water and services required. The disabled are thus treated and why? Due to lack of adequate funding and complete lopsided priorities of our political class and bureaucrats. This is not the first time such things are happening and unless the athletes, media and the people raise a hue and cry, and follow up, nobody will be punished and things will continue with absolutely no accountability!
Blowing hot and cold towards Pakistan and the Separists in Kashmir and Prime Minister's strong statements in Parliament to reassure and protect Minorities whilst the violence and tirade against them by what no more can be considered fringe elements of the Sangh Parrivar is continuing. Now conflicting statements of the Home Minister are leaving us all more confused! Pledging full support of minorities Rajnath Singh calls for a debate on anti-conversion laws. He asks "Why should there be any conversion at all? Why can't we serve the people without doing conversion? Can't we live without respecting each others faith? Can't a religion survive without involving in conversion? The basic character of the country should not be allowed to change". I couldn't agree more! It should be obvious to him that we are born into a family under certain circumstances that professes a certain caste and religion. The children have no choice until they grow up, get educated, and have freedom to remain in the same religion, change to another or come to the conclusion that religion divides and go the way of "PK" (question all religions) or chooses to have no religion! When wiser statesmen and intellectuals have already debated every aspect before framing the Constitution which is quite clear on religions and conversions, why interference by the State in my freedom of thought and beliefs?I agree the basic character of the country which is "Unity in Diversity" should not be changed. Why are they trying to straight jacket it? The sacred book for all has to be the Constitution of India which recognizes and guarantees every citizen's freedom and rights IN EQUAL MEASURE.
