*AUTISM AWARENESS PROGRAMMES BY TIES*
April being Autism Awareness month, TIES - Towards Inclusion Everywhere in Society, a parents support group for children with disabilities has organized various programmes in Goa. On the 1 st April 2015, TIES is planning an AUTISM AWARENESS WALK through the streets of Panjim. The participants will comprise of Parents of children studying in Resource Rooms, friends of families, and Students of B.Ed (special Education). Few other organizations Sangath, Sethu will join in this walk too. The walk will begin at Garcia da Orta (Muncipal Garden) at 9 am and then the route planned is to go via MG road turn into 18 th June Road & back into Garden by 12 noon. Pamphlets containing awareness material on autism will be distributed to the shops & other establishments on route. All participants have been advised to wear blue, since it is the worldwide colour associated with autism awareness. April 2 nd is Autism is commemorated as World Autism Awareness Day, so many organizations and colleges have pledged their support by wearing blue and creating awareness. The Panjim Church will be lit up blue as part of the “Light it up blue” campaign. Earlier TIES had collaborated with Go Adventures for the event, Swim for Autism- Swimathon 2015 at Bambolim beach on March 22 nd. TIES also plans to distribute pamphlets to schools, so that awareness can reach as many families and early detection would be possible. Other places planned are pediatrician clinics, supermarkets, petrol pumps & other public areas during the month of April.
