Just as in that infamous Tarun Tejpal case, the Goa Police have again clearly displayed excessive over enthusiasm in Smriti Irani’s ‘Fabindia’ camera row. If a fraction of such keenness was shown by the police in that January 14th 2013 rape at Vasco of the little 7 year old, the rapist would not have been still walking a free man.
There is obviously more than that meets the eye in this alleged Voyeurism case. Was the case so intricate that it needed the intervention of the Crime Branch? Smriti Irani who is no stranger to Goa where she owns a home is quiet knowledgeable and despite being a Union Minister did not herself immediately report the matter to the police but instead opted to first summon her political props. Did this hazy case warrant the arrest of those four staff and more so the sealing of the store? A typical instance where the police have definitely gone way overboard to please the Powers-that-be. There are more questions than answers in this episode. The whole imbroglio has served only to further sully Goa, which thanks to the BJP government continues being promoted as a gambling, prostitution and narcotics haven.
