Dear members of Goanet-forum, A totally fabricated accusation has been made against me that I requested a Stanford doctorate author for a complimentary copy of his book and upon refusal I told him he should go back to school to learn English.
When I was made aware of this, I was dumbfounded. So I scratched my head and after a while realised that the author being referred to was Dr Vali Jamal, a man with whom I have only ever had courteous exchanges. So I wrote to him and asked him if I had ever caused him offense and he immediately wrote back saying he wasn't referring to me at all but some other person.(That correspondence has been cced to some members of this forum, if you want to verify) Such is the facility of our internet lives that scurrilous canards can be spread at the press of a button. There is no accountability for the actions of the people who do so. They get away time and time again scot free while the reputations of people are maligned and damaged. I cannot appeal to their sense of morality as they have none. I only ask that you do not believe them. That is the only way to rob them of the power the internet gives them. This episode, unfortunate as it was, gave me an opportunity to reconnect with Dr Vali and do check out his book about Uganda Asians, details of which are here. http://www.coastweek.com/3718-latest-news-kul-bhushan-Doctor-Vali-Jamal-Recording-Uganda-Asian-Exodus-for-Posterity.htm Best wishes, Selma Carvalho
