Subject: Re: [Goanet] [goamusician] Emiliano Da Cruz

Joao Paulo Cota wrote:

Great compilation of one of the greatest musicians Goa has ever produced.
Further to what Paulo Dias mentioned on his reply, I was the one holding the
cassettes at Emiliano's request. It was very unfortunate that Goan Association
UK refused to let these cassettes be even given for distribution for donation
for the man who gave so much for everyone, including themselves, and yet they
allowed
pirated music of Emiliano to be played and sold openly at the Goan Festival to
the Goan public, thus depriving the man of his rightful meagre copyright
earnings. When challenged, they protected those who sold his pirated music..
GL replies:
I was saddened to read what the two writers wrote.  Whatever happened to Goan
hospitality?
Unfortunately the above is not a solitary example of the silliness (being
polite) of many presidents of Goan associations.   They try to maximize "poixe"
instead of maximizing Goan culture; which is what Goan functions are designed
to promote.
As a visiting Goan, he should be encouraged as a breath of fresh air / view at
the Goan event. As a visiting Goan not only should Emiliano been given the
stage but as a professional artist after a "free performance" he should have
given a small honorarium (donation) as spending money while he was in London.
I hope present and future presidents of Goan associations will adopt a
different perspective as we move forward this year. Regards, GL
