The Bombay High court this week may have held that the right to good roads is a fundamental right and that it was the state's statutory obligation to provide good roads, but with just over a week for the monsoon to lash Goa, the roads across the State are in an extremely pathetic and precarious condition. Have never seen them so bad.
Instead of getting their act together and making the roads safe, they continue to be dug and where ever the works are haphazardly done there is still heaps of debris lying along those roads. One dreads as to what may happen to the people using the roads this monsoon. Helmets may not save lives as it is the dreadful roads that will take the toll. This monsoon the Government will be solely responsible for every loss of life and damage to vehicles which may occur on account of appalling conditions of the roads. Ironically on the very eve of the monsoons the hot-mixing of some roads has just commenced. What a criminal waste of public funds. Is this the Parivartan by way of Good Governance that the BJP had promised us while sneaking to power in March 2012?
