Bicholim’s lack of progress lamented BICHOLIM: Former Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar expressed his displeasure at Goa’s political parties for playing gimmicks that undermined the taluka’s development for more than a decade. “ It is sad that when I was BJP MLA the Congress party never supported me, and most of the projects were shifted to Sanquelim. Now when the BJP is in power, we have an independent MLA, and probably same thing is happening with him,” said Patnekar. He added, “ There is no development in the constituency for more than a decade. Some of the projects for which I tried - Ravindra Bhavan, sports complex, swimming pool - have just remained dream projects for the people of Bicholim. During my tenure, I always raised these issues in the assembly. I was given assurances but nothing fruitful came out.” When asked about the last three years, Patnekar claimed there was almost “ zero development” in the taluka. He said, “ The foundation stone of the Bicholim ground that was laid on May 16, 2015 was actually from the funds that were provided by the erstwhile Digambar Kamat government. This itself is proof of how political games have marred the development of Bicholim.” 258 applications for DIET course PORVORIM: Vice Principal of District Institute of Education and Training ( DIET) Devidas Kudav stated that they received 190 applications for 50 seats for English medium and 68 application for 50 seats for Marathi medium.
