The BJP had promised Good governance and Zero tolerance to corruption but over the last three years in Goa we have witnessed that the rule of the jungle prevailing for those affiliated to the BJP.
A glaring example is of the Merces based BJP Senior leader Anil Raghuvir Hoble who has with impunity been usurping community land by filling the fields and destroying mangroves around the Ribandar – Merces area. The long arm of the law has finally caught up with this notorious politician who has switched parties to be always on the right side of power. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has yesterday ordered demolition of several structures, which include a restaurant and bar, along the Panaji -Ribandar causeway, belonging to Anil Hoble for violating various provisions of the environmental law. The Hoble’s River Lounge Bar & Restaurant was inaugurated with much fanfare by none other than Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on April 1, 2014, while he was Chief Minister though knowing that it was illegal and unlicensed on the inaugural day. The NGT has directed the Deputy collector to demolish all the structures belonging to Anil Hoble within a period of six weeks. Anil Hoble has also been directed to cough up a fine of Rs 20 lakh to the NGT for violating the CRZ notification, 1991. The NGT in its order has accused Anil Hoble of doing land filling after cutting mangroves and filling salt pans in violation of CRZ regulations. The order further accuses Anil Hoble of misleading the authorities. The illegal structures built by Anil Hoble for commercial activity along the very busy Panaji – Ribandar causeway is a very accident prone area with hundreds of fatal accidents on that road over the years. Ironically a few years ago Anil Hoble's own brother was also killed in an accident there. We have to thank activists Kashinath Shetye, Dr. Ketan Govekar and Sanjay Sarmalkar amongst others for having pursued this issue and brought the delinquent Anil Hoble to book.
