Former Minister and Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco may have tried his devious best to mock the rule of law, but the long arm of the law is finally catching up with this habitual offender.
South Goa Principal District and Sessions Judge Nutan Sardessai has now sought a detailed report within seven days from the Superintendent of Sada Jail Gaurish Shankhwalkar over the alleged VIP treatment being given to Mickky Pacheco who is currently undergoing a six month sentence at Sada Jail for having in 2006 assaulted Electricity department Junior Engineer Kapil Natekar. The attention of Judge Nutan Sardessai was drawn that Mickky Pacheco who after absconding for two long months and had on 1st June surrendered was on 2nd and 5th June taken to the Goa Medical College without the mandatory jail uniform. While Mickky Pacheco continues to refuse to wear the jail uniform, the Jail authorities remain a mere spectatator to this violation of the rules just because he is politically very influential. As part of the VIP treatment amongst other jail rules violations, Mickky Pacheco is being high-handedly allowed to use mobile phones despite it being strictly prohibited in the jail. Every convict should be dealt strictly within the parameters of the jail rules and Mickky Pacheco cannot be showered any preferential treatment in collusion and connivance with the powers to be. We however need to laud Goa Director General of Police T.N Mohan for despite being under intense political pressure, has rightly strongly opposed Mickky Pacheco’s application for release on a 30 day parole by falsely claiming that his mother was very serious.
