The Cricket clubs in Goa are scheduled to elect on June 28th the new Managing Committee of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) for the term 2015 – 2018.
As expected in desperation BJP’s Dr Shekhar Salkar misusing power has tried to get the elections rigged and fudged. It is nothing new as we have over the last there and half years seen the political manipulations and arm twisting by the BJP in the elections to various other bodies. Politicians should be kept away at a safe distance from all Sports bodies. BJP’s Dr Shekhar Salkar through all his politricks desperately and frantically managed to temporarily usurp the post as President of the GCA. His entire incognito behind the scene surgeries and strategies unleashed were in connivance and with the blessings of his mentor Manohar Parrikar. Ironically while Dayanand Narvekar was at the GCA’s helm of affairs, Dr Shekhar Salkar was vociferously demanding that the GCA should come under the purview of Right to Information Act. But once he assumed the reigns, in an expected U turn, Dr Shekhar Salkar chose that the veil of secrecy in the functioning of the GCA should continue. To uphold the self respect of the GCA all the cricket clubs with all their might should on June 28th fiercely resist any high-handed, vicious and undemocratic tactics by the RSS trained Dr Shekhar Salkar and make sure he is bowled out to a safe distance from the pitch. The GCA should not be allowed to be drifted by Dr Shekhar Salkar the Goa Cancer Society or National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) way. May the cricket pitch remain spic-and-span by electing an experienced hand like Chetan Desai as the President of the Goa Cricket Association to take the Cricket in Goa to greater heights. Dr Shekhar Salkar should stick to his BJP politics and oncology while leaving the Goa Cricket Association to be manned by dedicated sportsmen. Cricket in Goa cannot be allowed to die a cancerous death. Goa can do without a Lalit Modi. May the June 28th elections of the GCA usher 'Acche din' for Cricket in Goa.
