*Seafarers* need consideration The Govt. of India encourages export and gives various concessions and facilities to such exporters of products from the country. This results in the earning of much needed foreign exchange for the Nation
The seafarers by their remittances to India also contribute towards the same goal. They are taken for granted and enjoy no privileges, collectively at least in Goa it amounts to a very large input of foreign exchange. Since many are not aware or forcefully demand their rights, they exploited by the customs Earlier by air travel baggage allowances was 40 Kg ,but only 20/25 kg are permitted for local onward journey and which means stiff extras are to be paid for the excess baggage No consideration is given for earning foreign exchange and often harassed at custom clearance The seafarers union must vociferously bargain hard for the facilities commensurate with foreign exchange earnings in baggage allowance, which is very often are gifts for the family. The Govt. overlooks their sacrifices of lonely life without the comforts of family, enduring long hours of work with no public holidays, and leave without pay for months. They definitely need humane considerations and much needed facilities without begging Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
