Two, the Allied forces captured the then Burmese capital Rangoon from the 
Japanese.But that defeat actually started in Kohima and Imphal, bordering Burma 
in north-east India, a year earlier.British-led forces, which had earlier 
retreated from south-east Asia following a massive Japanese onslaught, finally 
stopped the Imperial army in Kohima and Imphal, repelling their attempts to 
enter mainland India.Thousands perished in the campaign, often described as the
