Dear friends,She fearlessly upheld the law -- convicting powerful people for
the 2002 killings and rapes, including a Gujarat minister. But ever since,
Judge Jyotsna Yagnik has received dangerous threats which are now escalating.
Let’s win this independent judge her security now.Judge Yagnik forwarded the
threatening letters to the Gujarat authorities but for a year they did nothing.
It was only after the media blew their cover that officials woke up and said
they’ll upgrade her security -- but they still haven’t done anything! They
think Justice Yagnik is fighting alone, and hope attention will die down. But
if we can show the state government that citizens will fight for honest public
servants, we can keep the pressure up for her protection. A threat to a judge
is a threat to the very idea of an independent Indian judiciary. Let’s get to
30,000 signatures, and flood the inbox of Gujarat authorities to show them
we’re watching. Sign and

2002 verdict in Gujarat’s Naroda Patiya massacre, where 97 people were killed,
stunned India for its bravery and honesty. Yagnik convicted very powerful
people, including Mayaben Kodnani, Gujarat’s women and child development
minister at the time, and Bajrang Dal’s Babu Bajrangi, caught on camera
admitting to the savagery. Both are now out on bail and appealing in a higher
court. Such is the climate of fear that recently two Gujarat high court judges
withdrew from hearing the case, and many fear the threats to Yagnik are part of
a pattern to intimidate the judiciary. Yagnik has an unblemished record as a
judge and a PhD in Human Rights law. >From indicting Pakistan’s intelligence
agency in a terror conspiracy case to delivering justice in the infamous Bijal
Joshi rape case. Yagnik is the kind of judge all Indians should be proud of.
She has performed her duties with unquestionable bipartisanship and
integrity.Retired Judge Yagnik says that she won't hire private security
because she sees herself as an ordinary citizen who deserves State protection.
So let’s back her bravery and show the Gujarat government that it can’t punish
her for doing her job. Once we kick off the campaign we’ll also push the
Gujarat government to investigate and punish those threatening her. Sign

integrity -- let’s unite to protect people like Judge Yagnik for doing that.
