The caution by Jose and Mervyn on the use of chemicals to remove monsoon moss,
should be heeded.  The fumes that these chemicals give out, may affect our
health, and also the plants in the vicinity.
In addition to the moss, what I find more slippery is an almost invisible slime
that coats, concrete surfaces, as well tarred roads and laeterite walkways.
More than once I have slipped on this slime which is akin to slipping on ice in
the winter in the colder countries. Someone had suggested using powdered bleach
which also gives out noxious fumes.  My solution has been touse a good old
fashioned wire brush while covering one's nose and mouth, to scrub the moss,
slime and pesky weeds that thrive during the rains. This is a time consuming
and oneroustask, but highly effective.  The only downside is that it may wear
down the surfaces being scrubbed.
Despite these travails, I love the monsoons in Goa !
