Excuse my interjection if it was a simple error. I am simply jumping in
since I notice such things, and have always hoped that others would do the
same for me. But I stopped hoping, and besides now Joel moved on. :(
It should be fugddi in Konkani. The "dd" is critical to convey correct
voicing and be orthographically correct in the Romi lipi. But people do use
'fugdi' and I presume inadvertently so. Unless of course, one is writing
one way and still pronouncing the correct way! The same cannot be true of
true of sari/ saree which sounds radically different from 'saddi'
(correct). It would be the same if transliterating from other Indian
languages. Someone botched that along the way. Guess? Anyway, accordingly,
'soddi' ('My God, my God', antti suskar soddi. see: Bandra Festak by H.
Britton). Oh, and on it goes--among other word sounds, the excitement
rendering 'saddo', and not to mention other exuberances.
